April 12, 2012, is the 151st anniversary of this tragic event which plunged the People of the States into a cauldron of “mass murder and mass destruction.” The wounds suffered by “both sides” have not healed to this date. How unfortunate.
In my book, WHY LINCOLN CHOSE WAR, I provide historical facts which show what actually happened prior to this date, much of the event itself and the horrors unleashed by the National government upon the citizens of the Northern states. These are provable facts and are quoted in large majority from Union and Northern sources.
Tom DiLorenzo in his epic work, THE REAL LINCOLN*, uses the word “unnecessary” in his title. No other word could be more appropriate in describing Lincoln’s War or any other war for that matter. ALL wars are unnecessary, but this one was especially so. There were multiple opportunities for resolution prior to the fateful outbreak of hostilities.
Were Major Anderson and his men truly starving? How had they existed at Fort Moultrie and then Fort Sumter for the six months prior to April 12? Why was this “shortage of food” not written about in the Northern press immediately upon its being learned about by the Buchanan administration in March, 1861?
How many Northern citizens were thrown into jail and sometimes clapped in irons for simply disagreeing with the conduct of Lincoln’s War? Why were the Northern people subject to martial law and military rule for the duration? Why were numerous “peaceful solutions” completely ignored by a small “power group” of people (mainly Lincoln and the Republican Party.)
My book seeks to establish no “cause” for this tragedy. It does not cast Lincoln as a “villain” although he did use dictatorial powers which have lasted within the Presidency to this day. I do not seek to justify slavery nor to blame anyone for its existence. Nor is there an effort justify the “lost cause.” Rather, I present actual, valid, true historical facts which have NEVER been presented to the People of the 50 States.
Read this book. Learn for yourself. DECIDE FOR YOURSELF why this horror was unleashed upon the American People when it would have been so very easy to avoid with reasoned discussion, compromise and time. Many, many citizens on “both sides” were “begging” for a peaceful resolution and no war.
